Challenges Facing Minnesota Farmers
Wieman noted that while Minnesota's farm legacy is strong, family farmers face significant headwinds that demand action from state lawmakers:
- Corporate Market Consolidation: Corporate ag monopolies squeeze independent producers and reduce farmgate profits.
- Input Cost Pressures: Increasing prices for seed, fertilizer, equipment, and fuel squeeze family farm budgets.
- Rural Infrastructure Needs: Urgent need for modern infrastructure, including reliable rural roads, rail access, and high-speed internet.
"As someone whose family has farmed in Sibley County since 1886, I know what it takes to keep a farm operating through tough times," Wieman added. "In St. Paul, I will fight to level the playing field for independent family farms and ensure agriculture remains vibrant for the next generation."
